Decoration Inspiration: ruffle streamers

Paper streamers are an inexpensive way to decorate for just about any party.  You can of course use crepe streamers straight out of the pack, but if you sew a few of them together to create a ruffle effect, they will come out not only looking fabulous but also sturdier and thus reusable.

I found this wonderful and very detailed tutorial here on how to make your own ruffle streamers.  There are even a few 'cheat' tips to make the sewing even easier.

Decoration Inspiration: Tissue Paper Pompoms

Such an easy and relatively inexpensive way to make a beautiful backdrop for your buffet whether you are throwing a baby shower, having a birthday party or celebrating a wedding: tissue paper pompoms.

I find that using an uneven number of pompoms works best. You can also make them in different sizes or vary the edges (round edges, pointed edges or even edges that have been cut with pinking shears).

Tissue paper is available in a wide variety of colours so you can easily colour coordinate the pompoms with the rest of your decorations.

The only thing you have to be careful about is not to tear the tissue paper when separating the different layers of tissue. Pulling gently is key here!

Carnival stand dessert table

When I am looking for party inspiration (or even design inspiration) one of the places I turn to is Martha Stewart. Today I came across this Carnival Stand Dessert Buffet and immediately fell in love with the muted candy colours (just look at that cake!) and the display. It can be used for a wedding but would just as easily fit a children's birthday party.
